Dietetic Food on Modern Family Cook: Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Vegetarian, Vegan

These days we deal with various dietary restrictions on a daily basis. It may be you who avoids particular foods, or maybe it’s a member or your family or guests who come to your house. In either way, you often find yourself in a situation when you need to plan an appropriate menu.

For example, this week I was twice asked to pick my brain about delicious foods for vegetarian guests and friends who avoid foods containing gluten.

And I thought that it’s high time I adapted the website to make it possible to filter the recipes according to food restrictions.

Here it comes! Now every recipe will be marked with an icon according to what diet it is suitable for. See the photo.

I’m also going to mark the recipes that can be easily transformed into dietetic by removing or replacing one of a few ingredients. I’ll leave the instructions at the end of such recipe in the P.S. section.

These icons also work as filters. Hit any icon, and you will see what other recipes are suitable for the diet you chose. See the photo. It’s very convenient if you need to plan your lunch or dinner, or just find something tasty.

Main icons/filters

Dairy free dishes don’t contain any dairy products, including milk fat. Such dishes are suitable for those who are lactose or casein intolerant.

Gluten-free dishes don’t contain any gluten-containing grains such as wheat, rye, and barley.

Vegetarian (ovo-lacto) dishes don’t contain meat, poultry, fish, seafood, but can include eggs and dairy products.

Vegan dishes don’t contain any meat, poultry, fish, seafood, eggs, honey, and dairy products.

Also, I will sometimes post recipes that use cooking techniques typical for a particular diet. It will mostly be gluten-free recipes because they require a specific technique. For such recipes, I will include “gluten-free”, “dairy-free”, etc. in the name. See the photo.

P.S. Since it’s a new function and I’m still filling the categories, there can be some errors and mistakes. Let me know if you notice something. Thank you!
