No wonder why granola (baked oats with nuts, raisins, and other ingredients) is now a very popular health food. It’s easy to make, it’s nutritious, sweet and crispy. There’re millions of possible ingredient combinations, and each one creates a unique taste. Granola is usually eaten with milk, yogurt, and can be served as a topping for desserts and ice cream.
It’s super convenient to always have a jar of granola at hand to be able to make a delicious and healthy breakfast for 5 min.
What else should I say to convince you to make your own homemade granola?
I think I better share with you a basic recipe for granola and explain how to make it, and you will add your favorite nuts, seeds, dried fruit to perfect your granola!
Recommendations for making basic granola (you’re free to experiment):
- The dry ingredients:wet ingredients ratio should be 6:1. So, for 6 cups of oats, raisins, and nuts, you should use 1 cup of maple syrup and coconut oil mixture.
- This amount will make 1 standard baking sheet. Spread granola in a 2 cm thick layer onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- To make your granola as diverse and full of flavors as possible, I recommend using 3-4 cups of oats, and 2-3 cups of raisins, sour berries like dried cherry or cranberry, nuts, coconut flakes, puffed grains like quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, wheat, etc.
- To make granola clusters, crispy and baked-through, it’s baked at 150 degrees and stirred a few times.
- Once you spread the granola out, make sure coconut chips don’t stick out because they can burn.
- It’s important to add salt and lemon juice – it contributes intensity to the taste.
