I tried this cocktail in an Indian cuisine workshop and I fell in love with it. Refreshing and spicy, sour-sweet and a bit heady, this cocktail is an ideal apéritif and digestif for an Indian meal.

Don’t add gin, if you want it alcohol-free. It will taste just as good.

Steps

1
Done

Slit a fresh chili lengthwise and drop it in a cocktail glass.
Crush it a bit for extra spiciness, if you want.

2
Done

Cut the lime into four wedges. Squeeze it into the glass, drop the wedges in there, too.

3
Done

Add ice and then gin. Top it off with tonic and sugar syrup, if you want it sweet. Add the basil seeds, stir, and let stand for 2 min for the seeds to swell up.
To serve, garnish with a slice of lemon.

4
Done

If you have a cocktail shaker, add all the ingredients (except for the lime wedges) into the shaker. Shake to mix, pour into glasses together with ice, and garnish with a lime wedge.
